The Greatest Thing I've Ever Seen in My Life

C'EST BON Vol. 9 Out Now

Allan Haverholm, over at C'est Bon Kultur, was kind enough to reprint a chapter from my book in the larger format, slick anthology publication, C'est Bon Vol. 9. This is a really top-notch perfect bound large format book that comes out of Sweden, where they know about comics. You can get a preview and also purchase the book over here. Other artists in the book include Michel Ducourneau (SE), Mike Diana (US), Eliza Frye (US), Allan Haverholm (DK), Ed Homer (US), Jacob Rask (DK) and Hanna Pettersson (SE). Below is one of the pages of mine that appear in this new book. Go check it out.

It's Bin Along Time.

Last year's New Year's Resolution was to not apologize for anything. Not too many friend casualties surprisingly. This year, one of my resolutions is to draw every idea that comes into my head. I'm beginning to think that i might have to include "complete every project" but that is an impossible task right now. Anyhow, here are some of the fruits of my completely unrepressed drawing brain.

Im hoping to persue these ideas this year. Im kinda debating if i want all of them in color. Also, check out this blog-http://insidethecosmiccube.blogspot.com/ it has awesome information on symbolism in comics.

Stuff

Been busy lately with a few projects, getting something made for National Geographic Television involving monster fish. Anyone in the New York area will be able to see my art at the Giant Robot gallery in the Metal show they're doing in February. Been thinking about doing a quick and dirty no fucking around comic book involving vikings and witches. Pretty minimal plot about a village where vikings live when not out raping and pillaging that is cursed with a long winter. They have to take a human sacrifice by boat to some distant island to remove the curse and cross through evil waters where giant witches live under the sea. Here is a bit of text that will help me visualize a scene from the comic - "Slithering eels with shriveled human heads splash onto the boat, a sign the cursed waters where the witches dwell approaches."

And here are some awesome 80's covers from the Buffetlibre DJ Rewind Project.

Project Jenny Project Jan - Self Control (Laura Branigan)

Another Self Control Cover, 8 bit style. Not from the Rewind project.

DVAS - Urgent (Foreigner)

Hexes and Ohs - Head Over Heels (Tears For Fears)

Nightwaves - In The Air Tonight (Phil Collins)

Cruel Black Dove - Love My Way(Psychedelic Furs)

Saint Bernadette - Owner of a Lonely Heart (Yes)

Post Apocalyptic Madness!!!

So, I've always been a fan of movies depicting the end of the world, or what comes afterwards. The Road Warrior is without a doubt right there my top 3 greatest movies ever made (locked in a never ending struggle with Once Upon a Time in the West and John Carpenter's The Thing). After The Road Warrior came out, the Italian Film industry did what it does best, and made a whole slew of insane/shitty/absolutely amazing knock-off films. I've been looking at a lot of the old vhs cover art for some of these gems lately, and figured I'd share some of the best I could find. Here's to hoping the post apocalypse comes soon!

Endgame (1986)
If only every movie was amazing as this cover looks.

Stryker (1983)
Apparently this one "Pulsates With Vibrant Life"

Robot Holocaust (1986)

1990: Bronx Warriors (1982)
The fact that the guy who wrote this expected world to be like this in only 8 years is insane.

2019: After the Fall of New York (1983)

Warlords of the 21st Century (1982)

The New Barbarians (1982)
One of my favorite movies ever

Wheels of Fire (1985)

2020: Texas Gladiators (1982)

After Aeron reminded me about Splatterhouse, i downloaded it onto my Wii & man, what a fun game! I didn't have a TRBOGRFFX16 when i was a kid, i am a NINTENDO PERSON, but they did have some tight games like Golden Axe & Altered Beast. Splatterhouse has some classically devolved horror elements that just scream 2009-2010 ART BRUTALITY HORROR SCHLOCK.

2010: NACHO MANIA

I'm continuing my manic streak of 2010. It might be the music i'm listening to (a steady stream of KISS, AC/DC, New York Dolls, Slade, Suzi Quatro & the Dictators) or just how i want things to be (F*CKIN' MANIC), but it's great either way. My only conundrum lately has been my relationship with the occult & whether or not it's good or bad. I feel a bit like Little Richard, with his tendencies towards totally debauched Rock & Roll fagg*t lifestyle & conversely, his desire to be a good man under the eyes of GOD. On one hand, i think that if GOD gives two shits about us little critters on this rock, GOD probably doesn't really care if we dabble in the darkness, the weirdness, the chaos & the obscure. Just exploring creation man. BUT, then there are the tribal gods, & that one worshiped by the Abrahamites is always looking over my GODDAMN shoulder! While Thor & Mithra are taking me by the hand & Baphomet is lurking in the shadows... luckily one of my best friends is a priest & he GUARANTEES i'm not going to hell. So... i should probably just continue onwards & upwards.

new ink " Audience with God Emperor"

I made this image for one of my all time favorite books-God Emperor of Dune. Of course I interepreted the original scene from the book - which is the audience with the Emperor in the city of Onn- my way. Also I did encorporate the Emperor into the royal carriage .

New Drawings

I spent almost all of 2009 sketching. This year I am going to work in a more finalized fashion and get some stuff done that can be made into prints or put into a book. Here is a start from yesterday.

Invasion Vs. Shackleton 12"

Hi Folks, I'm back on the blog, thanks to Gaspard and Sean for asking me back. Here's the sleeve for a 12" remix by Shackleton, the music reminded me of Steve Reich's overlapping patterns, so I tried to reflect this in the art.

With A Crime Record Like Charles Manson

Screwing around with more of these heads. I don't know what's up with them yet, i originally pictured them as bosses in side-scrolling games like R-Type but really, you just throw one of these giant heads in there & it gets crazy.

There's another weird cultural convergence happening in my head, which happened while i was playing Final Fight, the Billy Idol song "Hot in the City" came on in my head, which is now associated with Hard Gay (thanks Ragmar) which is now associated with Fist of the North Star. So combine all of that stuff & then add some NWA on top. Stir.
